Proper washing is important
I have been using this product for over two years and love it. I just ordered my third Fascinator Throw. It’s a must-have for profuse squirters – if you regularly soak the bed, you need this, and it’s well worth the cost. (It’s also great for other things, of course, but I would consider it a luxury for anything but really messy sex.)
Washing it is fairly easy but the instructions aren’t clear enough: IF YOU WASH IT IN WARM/HOT WATER OR DRY IT IN THE DRYER, YOU WILL RUIN IT. This isn’t like that shirt you have that says “wash cold” but will survive getting tossed in with the wrong load. The inner waterproof later cannot tolerate heat; it will crack and tear and your Throe will appear fine but will start leaking. Don’t bother with the dryer. Even “low heat” is too high and you’ll end up with leaks. The no-heat “fluff” setting is fine but pretty useless. The best way to dry it is to hang it. Depending on your water heater settings and your washer, the throw might handle a “warm” setting in the washing machine, but most of the time it will be too much and you’ll get leaks.
Like I said, I’ve had two of these and been using them at least twice a week for over two years. I’m purchasing a new one only because mine got accidentally tossed in the dryer. They are otherwise in great shape and have held up extremely well to frequent use and to being packed around.
My personal washing instructions for years of use: 1. Machine wash in COLD ONLY. 2. Machine wash ALONE (don’t throw in towels, sheets, or clothing) especially if you have a top-loader washing machine – the throw can handle the spin cycle in a top-loader but it may come out still dripping, so just wash it alone to give the spin cycle the best chance to get all the water out. 3. HANG TO DRY. Mine have dried within a couple of hours on a clothesline in the sun, and overnight on my shower curtain rod with a fan running. Don’t EVER put it in the dryer – even if you know for sure which setting will just tumble it without heat, it won’t dry it unless you keep it up all day, in which case you might as well have just hung it up.
I absolutely love these blankets and they have been well worth the money. The extra care they need for washing is still easier than dealing with wet sheets and a soaking mattress. I rarely use them at home and tote them around to my lovers’ houses in a backpack. My lovers appreciate me taking the wet mess with me when I go, or if I sleepover we both enjoy just tossing them aside and having a dry bed ready to go.
